Nick Keates

Nights Away Team Lead

Nights Away Team Lead

Nick serves as the Nights Away Team Lead for Maidstone West Scouts, a role dedicated to ensuring that all overnight events are planned and run safely in line with The Scout Associations guidelines. Nick's primary responsibility involves managing Nights Away Permits (NAP) for adult leaders, guiding them through the process of obtaining or renewing their permits.

This position involves overseeing the planning, risk assessments, and safety protocols for overnight events, working closely with leaders to guarantee a smooth, enjoyable, and safe experience for all Scouts.

As the Team Lead, Nick manages the district’s team of Nights Away assessors, coordinating their efforts around the district and ensuring they have the support they need to assess and approve permit requests.

Nights Away Team

The team is made up of Nights Away Assessors and plays a crucial role in ensuring that all overnight Scouting activities are safe, enjoyable, and compliant with The Scout Associations guidelines.

Their primary purpose is to support and manage the planning and approval of overnight events, including camps, overnight hikes, and trips, for all sections within the district.

The team helps coordinate risk assessments, ensures proper training for adult leaders, and oversees the Nights Away Permit process, which certifies leaders to supervise overnight activities. By providing expert guidance and support, the Nights Away Team helps create memorable experiences for Scouts while maintaining the highest standards of safety and wellbeing.
